SMOK RPM160 MOD POD KIT : Review

SMOK strikes again with their newest pod mod kit. This heavy hitter has been a reminder of how good pod mods can be. The cloud chasing is back to what it used to be! The RPM 160 snuck up on us with the release and this has been a favourite amongst vape trick practicers and fans of huge vapor production.
My first impressions were simply, “if Batman had a vape… this would be it.” Sleek but bulky, clean but crazy. The RPM 160 surprised me with its quality of coil and accessibility. With a nice user interface and easy accessibility with the buttons. Comparing it to something like the Drag S/X is hard to do since this is a low-key monster of a vape that produces huge clouds. If you’re trying to be discrete, this isn’t the vape for you. This is meant for the vape users that prefer the output of systems like the UWELL Crown, or the Vaporesso Gen Kits. While using this for a trial period, I really started to like the design of the vape with the grip on the back and the glossy outline. The hard part was putting it in a pocket. If you aren’t wearing a belt, you’ll probably end up wondering why your pants are at your ankles.
When it came down to using the device my favourite part was the rapid fire rate, it would hit almost immediately. I was also a bit surprised when I noticed the latch at the bottom similar to previous generations of mods where it was easily broken and the latch couldn’t be resealed. Surprisingly enough, this latch is actually part of the base instead of a piece of plastic keeping it shut.
VAPING
SMOK’s RPM 160 could have Thomas the Tank Engine Choo-Chooing out of the way. The vapor production for this device is insane. I guess you could expect that on a 50w-90w coil but it delivers and then some for cloud chasers. It blows the Drag X out of the water for cloud production. The coils also taste great, SMOK has come up with a specific coil just for the RPM 160; the V9 meshed 0.15oHm coil. I wish they could work on the age old problem where the flavour tends to leave towards expiration but the coil will last what feels like a lifetime. Very happy with that since replacements aren’t going to be as frequent, but if consistent constant flavour is what you’re after. I’d have to recommend Drag X over this, unless of course, you’re trying to vape out everyone around you and practice O rings. There is no coil for a MTL hit, so this device will always be a DL operation. Vaping this device, it’s very open. There isn’t really much you can do to make it MTL or a bit tighter. Even almost closed, the airways are open on the back and unless you vape with two hands, I don’t see how you could cover it up. For anybody that prefers an open hit, this is for you! However, any MTL users or vapors who favour a tight draw. This isn’t for you.

HARDWARE
The design and body of this device is eye-catching. The lines are clean as if this was designed by someone who makes motorcycles. It’s Batman's vape. The pod itself for this device is massive, and anybody using it can appreciate how you don’t have to refill juice so consistently like a Caliburn G or a RPM 2. The mod itself feels nice in the hand. The buttons are nice too, while the trigger feels good too. It’s 2020, so I have to mention that this should have a USB-C but I can’t complain about the micro-usb. It charges fairly quickly even though it’s using external batteries. Over the course of my review, I did run into an issue where a battery read as dead. However, 5 minutes earlier I was at 75%. This was a surprise, I just opened the hatch and closed it to have it working back to normal. Another strange thing about this is that it needs to have two batteries or it’s not operational. SMOK has to work on some minor issues that have been plaguing them for years. I really hope they can get it right eventually, because SMOK has always had the coolest looking vapes. The coil itself can last at least a week. The mod seems to be pretty good with drops, scratching is visible as well on the shiny parts of the vape. Other than that the RPM 160 is pretty solid. It should be considered as one of the better DL high wattage pod systems.HARDWARE RATING:8/10
OVERALL
The SMOK RPM 160 is a heavy hitter. If you’re looking for massive vapor production on a pod system that hits like a tank and mod from the good old days, this is a great option. With a very open hit and flavour. Your wattage changing from 50w-90w on one coil is great too. I highly recommend this for any cloud chaser and hope to see you rocking one of the great surprises of 2020.OVERALL: 7.5/10
